The Na-Thai Resort

Location

The Na-Thai Resort is located in a small village, and is surrounded by lush vegetation, oil palms and rubber trees (see map). The distance to the famous beaches of Hat Phra Ao Nang and Hat Nopparat Thara is approx. 5 minutes by car or by motor bike. The province's capital, Krabi, is a mere 15 minutes away, and the drive to the Krabi International Airport doesn't take longer than 20 minutes.

Description of the Resort

You won't find a reception at the Na-Thai Resort. Instead there is the “green couch” in the open area below the main building. The couch symbolizes the very informal culture you will find in the resort. The “green couch” is where you are greeted, where you check in and out, where you plan your activities and excursions, and where Walee and Gerhard will give you sound advice and information.

"Want to join me for breakfast?"

The vast space below the main building, which is designed in the classic Thai style and build from wood, serves as internet café, dining room, lobby, and lounge. This is also the place where diving courses and various workshops, teaching traditional handicrafts, are held. This rather unusual “lobby” is open on three sides and will give you the impression to sit right in the middle of the tasteful tropical garden that surrounds the house.

In front of the main building, right in the middle of the garden, between palm trees, flowers and shrubs, is the big swimming pool. Four of the resort's lovely bungalows face the swimming pool, two on each side. The fifth and largest bungalow stands behind the main building.

A hedgerow of two meters height surrounds the Na-Thai Resort, marks its borders, and provides privacy from passers by.

Particularly remarkable is the odorless, eye and skin friendly water of the swimming pool.

Gerhard and Saman, the resort's gardener, are treating and cleaning the water with a
new water-care system that doesn't require any aggressive chlorine or chemicals, and is completely free of the sometimes unpleasant byproducts of ionization and electrolysis methods.

Your Hosts at the Na-Thai Resort

Meet Walee and Gerhard, to whom the resort owes its very special charm and atmosphere. You will realize as soon as you check in: At the Na-Thai Resort you are not just a “paying guest”, but welcome as the person you are and a as member of the Na-Thai family. There is a difference between the service hospitality of a hotel and the heartfelt hospitality your hosts extend to you at the Na-Thai Resort. It comes natural to Walee and Gerhard to treat you as a friend, rather than a “guest”. You will find this caring attitude and culture in every little detail of the resort. Where else can you find a self-service bar in a hotel lobby, where you are asked, to kindly write on a pad what you where drinking? Where else could you leave your kids in the care of the “hotel manager” if you feel like spending a couple of hours by yourself, or if you wanted to enjoy a night out in the bars and restaurants of Ao-Nang?

No unhappy faces here.

Walee and Gerhard are always there for you – even in the middle of the night, if necessary. They personally remove the “giant” but harmless spider from your bathroom ceiling at 2:00 a.m., help you book and organize trips and activities, and look into matters, if things occasionally don't turn out as expected.

Their outstanding personal involvement and care is also the reason why the resort is not bigger. As Gerhard says: “If we had any more guests, it would be impossible to take care of them as we do now. We don't need another hotel-machine, and neither do our visitors. Walee and I enjoy dealing with different people and to make their stay as pleasant for them as possible. Our visitors feel that, right from the first moment they set foot into the Na-Thai Resort. – And it's because of our attitude towards them that they come back. We would like to keep it that way.”

Many of the long-time visitors of the Na-Thai Resort have become good friends with Walee and Gerhard. The Na-Thai Resort is a hot insider tip for all those who don't want to spend their vacation in Krabi inside a fully automated, impersonal tourism-routine.

Lazing around is officially encouraged.

The Restaurant

... and the generously equipped kitchen are the exclusive domain of the cook and house fairy, Jim.
Jim doesn't just cook. She cooks with joy and pride, the two most essential ingredients you cannot find on any spice rack, but that make all the

difference between a meal and a feast. As for the spices you can find on a spice rack: You can order your food from Jim just as spicy as you can eat it. Just let her know your "pain threshold". Jim cooks Western food just as delicious as Thai food. If you (or your kids) are craving that "Wiener Schnitzel", or the Spaghetti after a day at the beach: Jim will fix it for you in no time.

Where to go, what to see ...

Krabi is one of those very special places where two very different cultures co-exist and sometimes blend peacefully. In this province, the predominantly Buddhist Thai culture you can find further north of Krabi makes it's transition to the Islamic Thai-Malay culture of the South. Thus Krabi offers you a wide variety and a colorful mixture of people, ideas, art, handicrafts and architecture. All that right in the middle of a breathtaking landscape.

Around the Na-Thai Resort you can find plenty of fresh markets and bazaars; quiet temples and mosques; bizarre stalactite caves, some of which are used as temples, and others as burial grounds; limestone rocks with their own strange myths and legends; sandy beaches with all types of people; hot springs and crystal lakes to swim in; tropical rain forests, mangroves and spectacular underwater landscapes. There are beautiful beaches waiting for you on more than 200 islands. Walee and Gerhard know the province and its sometimes hidden treasures very well and are happy to share their knowledge with you.

... and what to do

It's impossible to list all the things you can do here. Here is just a small selection:

Eating, partying, rock climbing, diving, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, boat trips, island-hopping, elephant trekking, Thai cooking lessons, soap-, fruit and vegetable carving workshops, bicycle tours, horseback riding, quad racing, hiking, meditation, traditional Thai Massage, or simply lazing around.

Yes, you've read it right. In Thailand it's a way of life to laze around. To be lazy is a serious, almost professional endeavor, and it is officially encouraged at the Na-Thai Resort that you give it a try.

With all the exciting possibilities Krabi offers, you will never get bored. - Not one second.

Phantastic- beaches

If you are sick of having to dodge jet skis, banana boats, para-gliders, and running for your life from a horde of aggressive hawkers, then Krabi is the place for you. Take a breath and relax: Unlike on Phuket beaches, those things are not only prohibited in the province, but the laws are also effectively enforced. Looking at the disaster zone Phuket, the provincial authorities wisely decided, that the future in Krabi belongs to visitor-friendly beaches, and they keep the beaches free from commerce, clutter, noise and other potential nuisances and outright dangerous forms of "entertainment".

The result: Krabi has some of the most beautiful and tranquil beaches in South-East Asia. Each of the beaches has a very unique character, and you will never find them crowded - not even during high season.

There is, e. g., Hat Phra Ao Nang, the center of the action and the nightlife, with its beach promenade, beach cafes, Thai Massage pavilions and the limestone cliff that separates Ao-Nang from the Raileh peninsular and dominates the beach-scape.

Hat Phra Ao Nang

Then there is Hat Nopparat Thara, a more than 3 km long stretch of quiet, unspoiled, sandy beach with plenty of trees providing shadow for you. Right opposite the beach there are three rocky outcrops which form a small marine national park. During low tide you can walk over to the mini islands dry-footed.

Hat Nopparat Thara and its marine national park

The dream beaches of Railey and its limestone paradise for climbers are accessible only by boat.

Railey peninsula

On Koh Poda Island you can swim with the most beautiful and curious fish, sometimes not more than 3 meters away from the water's edge.

Koh Poda

... and there is only one word to describe the beaches Hat Klong Muang and Hat Tub Kaek north of Ao Nang: Paradise !

It must have been there that nature decided that fantasy should have wings and dreams are in color...

Hat Tup Kaek

If you prefer your beach to be lively and active, or quiet and enchanting: Ao Nang offers a whole choice for everybody's taste.
